  • My Top 4 Breakfast Cafes in Brisbane Australia

Posted on April 1st, 2009 admin 2 comments
    Bookmark and Share

OK, I don’t class myself as a professional food critic, but I can say that most weekends for the last couple of years, I have been sampling the brekky cafes in Brisbane and have my finger on the pulse (as of the 1st of April 2009 at 9.12pm). I am not one for your standard “Big Breakfast” where you are left feeling ill due to grease, nor do I settle for a crappy muesli or 0mlette. Without further a d0, my top 4 breakfast cafes in Brisbane (in no particular order):

     Cirque

    618 Brunswick St
    New Farm 4005 QLD

Amazing! Little cafe in New Farm with 2 levels of space. There is always a line out the front on the weekends, so you better get your newspaper, order a coffee and wait in line. There is always new stuff on the menu (think Beetroot Hummous with Rocket…), and their normal menu is always fantastic (Hashbrowns are great!). The “chowdown” and “vego chowdown” have to be done, accompanied by a creamy flat white.

Back up plan if too busy - Campos (see below)

    Gun Shop Cafe

    53 mollison street

    west end

    3844-2241

    Website

I am a bit biased to West End, but Gun Shop Cafe would be my favourite out of the list. Again you will line up on the weekends, but it is worth the wait. The atmosphere here is fantastic, with the food & coffee - amazing. Potato Feta Hashcakes,Great Omlettes and the Corncakes are always good! Menu is always changing, so check it out!

Back up plan if too busy - Tempo (see below)

    Anouk

    212 Given Tce
    Paddington 4064 QLD
    Phone: (07) 3367 8663

Very similiar to Gun Shop Cafe (I think the owners of Anouk used to own Gun Shop??). Similiar style, not as much atmosphere as Gun Shop, but the menu is fantastic and worth checking out.

Back up plan if too busy - Sassafras (see below)

    Cantina

Cantina is a place where you can go and order brekky, have 2 coffees and get away with paying ~ $30. On Hardgrave Road, West End, this place is a surprise packet with fantastic pancakes and different menu items not found at other places (Yucatan Eggs with Potato and Hint of Spice). The specials are always changing, and starting to become a favourite of mine.

Back up plan if too busy - Gun Shop/Tempo (see below)

    Other Places

Other places I would recommend are:

    • Sassafras (Paddington)
    • Campos (Fortitude Valley)
    • Tempo (West End)
    • Eves on the River (Teneriffe)
